Piromit 2005 Shiraz
This generously flavoured red shows ripe dark berry and plum fruit with some pepper and spice, restrained oak and soft tannins. Try it over the next few years with beef, lamb, richer game meats or hard cheeses. Mike Frost, The Courier Mail (Brisbane) 2 October 2007 Typically rich-and-ripe Riverina, with intense dark fruit and berry flavours and a peppery, fragrantly spicy bouquet. Excellent value ... and good with barbecued prime rib. David Ellis, North Shore Times (Sydney) 26 October 2007 Aromas of fresh red berries, cracked pepper, a little mint and some attractive sweet vanilla oak. Good clean smelling wine. On the palate, medium-to-full-bodied with sweet cherry and red berry, pepper and some savoury woody vanilla oak. Sweet fruit, dry, slightly gritty tannins and some warmth. It drinks really well and would go down a treat at any BBQ. Gary Walsh, www.winorama.com.au, 27 September 2007
Piromit 2005 Sangiovese
Piromit wines are not as available as they should be. One of the range worth seeking out is the Sangiovese now grown extensively in the Riverina. This one has soft earthy undertones on the nose, with berries and spice on the palate. It’s a good wine for red meat, and while capable for short term cellaring is more of a drink now proposition. Michael Southern, Pittwater Life (Sydney) October 2007
Piromit 2005 ChardonnayGriffith-based Piromit has an reputation for producing excellent, well priced wines. An above-average chardy, brimming with stonefruit and melon aromas on the nose that fl ow through to the palate, unobtrusive oaking, nutty characters and a creamy finish. Drink it with pan-fried veal. Kerry Skinner, Illawarra Mercury (Wollongong) 3 October 2007 Piromit 2005 Semillon Sauvignon BlancPiromit wines are not as available as they should be. A Semillon Sauvignon Blanc with lots of citrussy flavours on the nose and the palate. It’s a nice dry white, once again ready for immediate consumption and specially lends itself to the aperitif style of wines. Michael Southern, Pittwater Life (Sydney) October 2007 Piromit 2005 Pinot GrigioA food-friendly Italian version of this increasingly popular variety. David Bray, The Independent (Brisbane) 17 October 2007 Piromit 2005 Botrytis SemillonIntense and rich aromas of dried apricot, pineapple, honey and some light gamey characters. The palate has a nice fat untuous texture with apricot jam, pineapple, honey and a little spice from the oak. Soft but balanced acidity and (of course) has a long honeyed finish. An excellent thicker style with plenty of flavour. Gary Walsh, www.winorama.com.au, 26 October 2007
